The Art of Tidying up Negative Energy: Hallways

About a month ago, I wrote about a personal project I was creating called “The Art of Tidying Up Negative Energy,” which is basically a purge throughout my house (for now, as different types of purging are to come) in an effort to weed out negative energy being carried in things and memories.

So, I started.

In fact, I’m in it pretty deep (which you probably have noticed the past few weeks if you follow me on Instagram). AND I wrote about a recent hurdle with what to do with my family and wedding photos during the master closet phase, which is jumping ahead a bit, but the feelings at the time were just too much to not share.

BUT, anyhow, today I’m writing about the start of it all, which interestingly enough began with a hallway.

Well, maybe it does make sense that I started with a hallway when I go back and read the original post of this project since I mentioned painting a section of my main home foyer and hallway shortly after my life changed.

An excerpt of that post:

I made the hallway wall into a gallery wall full of inspirational messages, photos of the boys, and interesting artwork. Much like I had done in the dining room when I had it freshly painted white. Now, you can’t possibly walk past those spaces and not feel a breath of fresh air and curiosity. It’s amazing how much the level of lightness it adds to the home. It makes me and the boys very happy. And I can keep adding new, fun imagery to the gallery walls as I and the boys discover them.

This hallway section that I’m talking about today extended beyond the already painted one, though not with this horrid dark brown paint.

Instead, it was this semi-horrid brownish tan toupe color business. 😂

The new color seen above, like the first section of the hallway, is white. The same white I hired painters to do my dining room in a few years ago.

Anyway…

I didn’t plan on painting this continuation of the hallway AT ALL. I was just simply starting small with my project by purging it first since I have a “command center” in this space with a calendar, hooks for backpacks, cubbies, a table, yadda yadda, but something took over my body at 7:30 p.m. one night and I just started painting.

I don’t know why. I was just led to do it.

I already had a great quote in the space, so I used that to inspire me.

BE. YOU.

So, I let the space become me. And the boys. And the love of my family and friends. And every person who walks this path.

I painted for 4 days. Not continuously, but I finished it pretty quickly. Like the previous hallway I painted, it was therapeutic and a great release of energy. My body hurt each morning I woke up and I was SO SICK OF PAINTING by the end of it, but the final product made me so incredibly happy to see.

It’s bright. It’s clean. It’s positive.

It even makes the first section of hallway look brighter and lighter. I was even inspired to add more art to that gallery wall, too.

I wiped down all the pieces of the command center, purged the table full of old school supplies and random objects, and went through all of the coats and clothes hanging on the hooks.

I ended up with a LOT of unused items that went to the Salvation Army, which also made my heart very happy.

Look, I know it’s just a hallway, but think about what hallways are. They are probably the most used sections of the home. You’re required to walk down them to get to important rooms. You walk down them several times a day. Your kids and loved ones walk them, too. They are connectors, like veins and arteries of the home. They should be cared for, too, right?

Next up, I’m sharing my master closet purge. I’m already finished with that phase, but it was a MUCH bigger emotional challenge than this one to get through, so I gotta take some time to put my thoughts together on it. For now, if you haven’t already, you can read a little bit about the struggles here.

Peace & Love, my friends.
